Located in the heart of an exceptional natural setting, the resort is among one of the most outstanding areas of Côtes d’Armor. Whether you enjoy cycling or hiking, you will find plenty of paths with scenic views of the sea.The ten unspoilt beaches of fine sand that run along the coastline are the perfect spot to sunbathe or else walk face to face with the sea. Here we are very proud of our fishing port, the fourth in France in terms of value of merchandise exchanged. You will taste here the famous Scallop of the Bay of Saint Brieuc.
The Cap d’Erquy Headland
The Cap d’Erquy and its high cliffs of pink sandstone offer breathtaking views, each one being more amazing than the previous. Lakes flow peacefully where in the ancient days there were quarries: the precious pink sand stone was for a long time extracted from the cliff, as evidenced by the remains that you’ll see when walking along the GR34® hiking path. You will walk along the moors, enjoying the colours of the yellow and the pink from the gorse and the heath under the shadow of the pine trees, on foot or by bike. An instant of contemplation is required in order to fully enjoy the variety of settings that you will discover all along the 15 kilometers of this amazing hike.
The scallop of the bay of Saint Brieuc
You cannot make a stopover in Erquy without taking the time to stroll along the quay of the fishing port!
Here, the sailors bring back real jewels. The bay of Saint-Brieuc houses many species of fish and seashell including an important great scallop deposit. The scallop fishing starts in October and usually ends around the start of April.
The gourmets among you will enjoy savouring this treasure sitting round a nice table, after a lovely walk along the coast, a sand yacht class, or a kayak tour.
Every three years, the Fête de la Coquille Saint Jacques, a huge festival dedicated to the great scallop takes place in Erquy. Concerts, tastings, exhibits, sea excursions… the weekend is always filled with activities !
The event is back in Erquy in 2023 from April 15th to 16th.
Water sports
Water sports In Erquy, there’s a water sport for every member of the family. If you’d like to try scuba diving, the instructors of Histoire d’eau will show you the wonders of our coasts. The long beaches are perfect for sand yachting or kitesurfing when the wind is on your side. For a thrilling experience, you can try flyboards or hoverboards and even learn how to fish like a genuine breton with our fishing guides. And finally, for the fitness lovers, what’s better than a SUP’ness lesson under the summer sun?
Commented Cruises
The coastline around the Cap d’Erquy and the Cap Fréhel is so beautiful that you may fancy a cruise to discover it from the sea.
Armor Navigation organizes, between april and september, commented tours on a boat that lets you discover the beauties of the coast, including the ornithological reserve of the Cap Fréhel and an incredible view of the Fort La Latte from the sea.
You can also discover the Island of Bréhat, thanks to the cruise company Les Vedettes de Bréhat. The boat leaves Erquy in the morning during the summer season to bring you to the “Island of Flowers” for a whole day of discovery.
If you prefer sailing on a traditional boat, la Sainte Jeanne awaits you on the quay. Please enquire at the Tourism Office for more information and booking.
Bienassis Castle
Initially built in the 1400s, this beautiful fortified manor house is a must-see. You can visit the furnished rooms and the formal garden between april and october. During summer, activities for families and sound and light shows animate the castle.
As you can see, life is peaceful in Erquy and you will be able to revitalize yourself in all seasons!
